August 25 - Chairman of CPN-M Mohan Baidya has claimed that the talks between the High-Level Political Committee (HLPC) and his party led 33-party alliance failed to reach consensus due to “foreign intervention”
“The leaders of High Level Political Committee thwarted any chances of reaching a consensus by refusing to address the preconditions for the upcoming round-table conference by coming under pressure of foreign powers,” Baidya said while addressing a press meet organised to inform that the HLPC leaders were responsible for talks hitting a snag.
The Maoist ideologue, however, didn’t elaborate as what he exactly meant by “foreign powers” or “foreign intervention”.
Still, leader Baidya informed that the 33-party alliance requests the HLPC leaders to review their decision to reject the demand that a round-table conference will take decisions on all key issues including the polls and the fate of the current government.
He further said that the 33-party alliance will now hit the streets against the arbitrary decision of HLPC, but will still keep the doors open for future talks.
Emerging from the talks between HLPC and the Mohan Baidya-led 33-party alliance, CPN (UML) chairman Jhala Nath Khanal had told reporters yesterday that further engagement with the disgruntled side would be meaningless as the HLPC cannot meet the demand to put off the November 19 elections.
