Gorkhaland movement intensifies with students' participation

KATHMANDU, AUGUST 27, 2013 - The Gorkhaland movement in Darjeeling demanding for a separate state of Gorkhaland in the Darjeeling Hills in West Bengal, India saw the participation of students, on Tuesday.


Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM), which has been spearheading the protest s in Darjeeling, made the students aged between 10-18, to participate at the protest demonstrations, with the intention to further intensify the movement for a separate state of Gorkhaland .

Following which, the students, who had until today been rendered indoors because of the closure, came out in the streets and chanted slogans demanding Gorkhaland .

Hundreds of academic institutions in Darjeeling have been shut down following the movement. GJM General Secretary Roshan Giri said that the party intended to field the students in the streets for the next five days.
