Rawat, Shah clinch U-8 tennis titles

KATHMANDU, Aug 27: Aki Juben Rawat of Pennwood Academy and Isha Shree Shah of St Xavier´s won the titles of the Seventh LA/JTI Inter-school Junior Open Tennis Tournament in the boys´ and girls´ U-8 age categories respectively on Tuesday.

In the final held at the tennis court of host Little Angels´ School in Hattiban, Lalitpur, Rawat eased past Ranav Singh of Kasthamandap 10-3, 10-4 to clinch the boys´ title. Sumit Basnet of Nepal Police School and Aarab Samrat Hada of St Xavier´s finished joint third in the event.

Meanwhile, Isha Shree Shah defeated Aja Regmi of Kasthamandap 10-5, 10-1 in the girls´ U-8 final to lift the title. Akshita Singh of LA and Samriddhi Shrestha of Malpi both settled for the third position.

In the girls´ U-10 age category, Abhilasha Bista of St Xavier´s and Saloni Tamang of LA set up a title clash winning their respective semifinal matches. Bista saw off Nima Roka of LA 8-2 while Tamang edged out Saisa Joshi of Rato Bangala 8-6 to reach the final.
In the boys´ section of the same age group, Samyak Bhushan Bajracharya of Shuvatara, Adit Subedi of St Xavier´s and Sulav Dhital of Nepal Police School advanced to the quarterfinals.

The quarterfinal line-up of the boys´ U-12 age group was completed on Tuesday with Bajracharya leading the list of players making it through to the last eight. His elder brother Samrakshak Bhushan Bajracharya of Shuvatara also reached the quarterfianls. The other quarterfinalists are Deep Rana and Swaraj KC of LA; and Nepal Police School´s quartet of Renjen Lama, Sulav Dhital, Prashant Basnet and Dipesh Khatri.
Meanwhile, Khushi Pandey of The British School, Ira Rawat of Pennwood, Silvika Rayamajhi of Rato Bangala and Medhavi Giri of Ullens´ reached the quarterfinals of the girls´ U-12 age group.

In the matches held at the Satdobato Tennis Court, Manavi Shah of The British School registered a 8-6 win over Aja Regmi of Kasthamandp in the girls´ U-9 age group and St Xavier´s Isha Shree Shah hammered Harira Mil of The British School 8-0 to secure their places in the final.
In the boys´ section of the same age group, Binaya Batas of Nepal Police School, Nitesh Thakur of LA, Ranav Singh of Kasthamandap and Aditya Subedi of Euro International made it to the semifinals.

In the U-16 boys´ singles, Saksham Karki of Rato Bangala, Arjan Dhungel of Shuvatara, Abhishek Bastola of Pokhara, Govinda Pakhrin of Gandhi School, Avash Malla of Rato Bangala, Navin Gurung of Pokhara, Bivek Shrestha of Modern Indian School and Abhaya Gauchan of Rato Bangala advanced into the quarterfinals.
Karki also reached the semifinals of the U-14 boys´ singles along with Pradeep Khadka of Pokhara, Pranav Khanal of St Xavier´s and Samrakshak Bhushan Bajracharya.
Bibhuti Karki of St Xavier´s thrashed Anusuya Gosai of LA 8-0 to secure berth in the semifinals of the U-16 girls´ singles category. Likewise, Mayanka Rana of Rupy´s handed a lesson to Ridisha Dangol of St Xaviers´ with an 8-0 victory. In another match of the same age group, Bijisha Shrestha of DAV beat Geeta Shrestha of LA 8-3.
