Constitution impossible if tyrants win polls: Prachanda

UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has remarked that the elections would be held to draft the new constitution if consensus could not be forged despite the painstaking efforts for the same. He claimed that the new constitution will be drafted this time under any circumstances by rectifying the mistakes of the past.

Inaugurating the third national conference of Tamu Rastriya Mukti Morcha organised in Pokhara on Friday, Dahal expressed his confidence that the mistakes made four years ago would not be repeated. "Nepali Congress and CPN-UML prevented us from drafting a constitution with federal structure based on ethnic identity and we did not accept the federal model proposed by them," said Dahal. "That will not repeat this time, people's constitution will be drafted at any cost."

"The constitution would have surely been drafted if we had voted on the issue but we made a mistake," said Dahal. "We trusted the other parties with the hope of forging agreement that was our mistake."

Saying that the nation could not get a new constitution and a stable government because the people did not give a majority, the UCPN (Maoist) chairman stressed that his party should be given a majority for progressive change in the upcoming CA polls.

"We are afraid that the constitution would not be drafted if tyrants or frauds won the elections," said Dahal. He claimed that all the achievements made so far would be lost and the constitution would not be drafted even in the third attempt if any other political party won the elections.

He claimed the time has come for the people to rule the nation and there lies a great challenge whether the people will win or enemy in the November elections.
